Signs of a Genuine, High-Welfare Gaushala
- Medical Segregation: Do they have a separate, quiet ward for sick, injured, or recovering cows away from the healthy herd?
- Adequate Space and Shade: Cattle should not be standing in knee-deep muck. Look for dry bedding, sturdy tin roofs for shade, and enough room for all animals to lie down at the same time.
- Clean Water Troughs: Clean, fresh drinking water should be available 24/7.
- Transparency: A good Gaushala welcomes volunteers and is completely transparent about their veterinary bills and fodder costs.
How to Support Them (Beyond Money) While funds are always needed, you can also support them by donating raw materials like truckloads of dry green fodder (chara), jaggery for the winter, or basic medical supplies like Betadine and bandages.
