If you keep a dog in Kolkata, dog registration is handled by the Kolkata Municipal Corporation (KMC). This guide covers the legal basis, the fee, what the online application asks for and the vaccination rule. For everyday care tips, visit our dog hub.
The legal basis
KMC registers dogs under section 521 of the KMC Act 1980. [S1]
Fee
KMC’s fees schedule for 2024–2025 lists dog registration at Rs 100 per dog. [S2] The same schedule lists dog detention at Rs 10 per dog per day. [S2]
The online form also has a “View Fees” button [S1], so check the amount there before you pay, as fees are revised from year to year.
What the online form asks for
The application is on the KMC website and needs a login. [S1] The required fields are: [S1]
- Owner: financial year, name, mobile number, ward, premises number, street, address, PIN code, ID type and ID number
- Dog: name, age and sex
- Vaccination: date of the current vaccination and the date it is valid up to

The vaccination rule

What the official pages don’t say
The KMC pages we checked do not state a deadline for registering a new dog, a penalty for not registering, or a helpline for dog registration. Contact your KMC ward office if you need these details.
