If you live in Delhi and want to know how to apply for a dog licence with the MCD, the good news is that the whole process is online. This guide covers what you need, what it costs, how long the licence lasts and where to get help. For everyday care tips, visit our dog hub.
How the MCD dog licence works
Registration is done online on the MCD Pet Dog Registration portal only. You sign up with an Aadhaar-linked mobile number, and confirmation comes by SMS. [S1]
Supporting documents must be uploaded as PDF files, with a maximum size of 2 MB each. [S2] Scan your documents and check the file sizes before you start, so the upload goes smoothly.
Fees
- New registration: Rs 500 [S3]
- Renewal: Rs 500 [S3]
- Late fee on renewal: Rs 100 per month [S3]
- Surrender: free [S3]
Payment is by debit or credit card. [S3] Fees are not refunded if an application is rejected for ambiguity or false information [S5], so double-check every detail before you pay.
How long the licence lasts, and renewal
The licence is valid for up to one year and is linked to your dog’s anti-rabies vaccination date. [S4] There is a renewal grace period of 1 month after the anti-rabies vaccination certificate expires; after that, the late fee applies. [S4]
In practice, your licence and your dog’s rabies booster run on the same clock. Keeping track of the vaccination date is the easiest way to avoid late fees. Our free Pet Vaccination Tracker can remind you before it’s due.
Where to get help
For problems with the portal or your application, contact the MCD helpline on 155305, email mcd-ithelpdesk@mcd.nic.in, or use the MCD311 mobile app. [S6]
The Pawsitive Hoomans Take
A licence can feel like paperwork, but it does two useful things. It gives your dog an identity on record if they ever go missing, and because it’s tied to the rabies date, it nudges you to keep the most important vaccination up to date. Keep a copy of the licence and the vaccination certificate together on your phone so you have both when you need them.
🐾 Keep your dog’s vaccination records and documents in one place with a free Pet Passport, so renewal dates never sneak up on you.
