Lucknow Nagar Nigam registers pet dogs online. The registration portal is linked from the Nagar Nigam’s official website as “ऑनलाइन डॉग रजिस्ट्रेशन”. [S1] This guide covers the fees, the yearly renewal, the late penalties and the documents you need. For everything else about dogs, visit our dog hub.
Fees
- Indian or desi breed: Rs 200 [S2] [S3]
- Foreign breed: Rs 1,000 [S2] [S3]
The portal shows the same fees for a new registration and for a renewal. [S2]
Renewal and late penalties
- When: the portal says that once the financial year ends, you need to renew the licence. [S2] The financial year ends on 31 March.
- Late penalty: the portal says a penalty of Rs 500 per dog applies from 1 May, and from 1 June it adds Rs 50 per day. The total penalty won’t exceed Rs 5,000. [S2]
- Rabies reminder: the portal sends a notification 15 days before your dog’s rabies vaccination expires. [S2]
The portal repeats its penalty rule in two slightly different versions, one of which mentions only the Rs 50 per day from 1 June. [S2] Either way, renewing in April avoids the penalty.
Documents
The portal asks for scanned photos of the original cards: [S2]
- a photo of your dog
- the vaccination card
- the sterilisation card
How to apply
- Open the portal from the Nagar Nigam website and log in with your phone number and an OTP. [S1] [S2]
- Verify the OTP and your details. [S2]
- Select the breed and enter your dog’s details. [S2]
- The certificate is issued after verification. [S2]
A few rules to know: [S2]
- Each mobile number can be registered only once.
- It’s “One User, One Certificate”, even if you own several dogs, and every dog you own must be registered on the system.
The portal runs on a private web address (lucknow.upnn.co.in), not a .gov.in one. We’re treating it as official because the Nagar Nigam’s own website links to it. [S1]
How many dogs can you keep?
The Nagar Nigam’s animal welfare department document says a home of up to 200 square metres can keep a maximum of 2 dogs, and a home of 200 to 400 square metres a maximum of 4. [S3] The portal states a similar rule but in square feet, which looks like an error, so go by the Nagar Nigam document.

The Pawsitive Hoomans Take
Lucknow’s system is cheap for Indian breeds and quick online. The penalty is the part that hurts: Rs 500 just for being a month late. Set a reminder for 1 April every year, and keep the vaccination and sterilisation cards scanned and ready.
🐾 You’ll upload your dog’s vaccination card. Our free Vaccination Tracker keeps the dates on track, and a Pet Passport keeps the cards and your certificate together.
Other cities: see our dog registration guide for every city and renewal deadlines by city.
