Getting a dog licence is only half the job. In most cities it has to be renewed, and the deadline is easy to forget. This guide lists the renewal rules and late fees for each city we’ve verified, with links to the full city guides. For everything else about dogs, visit our dog hub.

Delhi (MCD)
The licence is valid for up to one year, linked to your dog’s anti-rabies vaccination date. Renewal costs Rs 500. There’s a one-month grace period after the vaccination certificate expires, after which a late fee of Rs 100 per month applies. [S1]

Noida
Renew online between 1 and 30 April each year. Applying in May costs Rs 700; from 1 June it’s Rs 700 plus Rs 10 per day. [S2]

Ghaziabad
Renew between 1 and 30 April; the fee is Rs 1,000 a year. Between 1 May and 31 May a Rs 500 fine is added, and from 1 June the penalty is Rs 50 per day. [S3]

Gurugram
Renewal is a separate service on the Haryana SARAL portal (“Renewal Certificate of Dog Registration”), with a 7-day time limit for processing. [S4]

Mohali
Renewal costs Rs 200 per animal and is due by 30 April each year; registrations run from 1 April to 31 March. Late fees are Rs 100 up to one month late, Rs 200 up to two months, and five times the fee after that. [S5]

Mumbai (BMC)
Renew on the MCGM portal under Citizens → License – Dog, which has a separate “Renew” option. [S6]

Even if you pay the one-time Rs 500 for 10 years, annual registration at your regional office is still mandatory. [S7]

Lucknow
Renew after the financial year ends. The portal charges Rs 500 per dog from 1 May, then Rs 50 per day from 1 June, up to Rs 5,000. [S11]

Renew every April for Rs 400. If you don’t, the fine is Rs 100 per day until you get the licence. [S12]

Hyderabad (GHMC)
GHMC’s terms don’t mention yearly renewal; they say the licence number stays the same for the animal’s life. A change of owner needs a fresh registration. [S10]

Before you renew
- Check the rabies vaccination date. In Delhi the licence is tied to it [S1], and most cities ask for a current certificate.
- Keep last year’s licence number and receipt handy.
- Renew early. In Noida, Ghaziabad and Mohali, late fees start the day after 30 April. [S2] [S3] [S5]
