In most Indian cities, pet dogs must be registered with the municipal corporation or nagar nigam. The fee, the website and the renewal date are different in every city. This page collects our city guides in one place, with one checked fact for each city and a link to the official source. For everything else about dogs, visit our dog hub.

Your city isn’t listed? We’re adding more cities every week. Until then, check your municipal corporation’s website for “dog licence” or “pet registration”.
Other cities we’ve checked
For these cities, we couldn’t find enough on official pages to write a full guide (checked October 2026):
- Chandigarh: the Municipal Corporation lists “Permission for keeping Pets” as a Right to Service, with a 3-day time limit, but we found no published fee or document list. [S17]
- Navi Mumbai: NMMC’s online services portal lists Dog License, Dog License Renewal and Cat License. Fees and documents are only shown after you log in. [S18]
- Pimpri-Chinchwad: the only PCMC page we found is an older, undated document from its Veterinary Department, so confirm current fees with that department. [S19]
- Indore: Indore Municipal Corporation’s list of services doesn’t include a pet registration or licence.
- Nagpur: we found no pet registration page on Nagpur Municipal Corporation’s website.
- Bengaluru: the city’s Animal Husbandry department lists “Issue of License to Pet Dogs” among its activities, but we found no current page with fees or how to apply. [S26]
- Faridabad: dog registration and renewal are Haryana Right to Service services, applied for on the SARAL portal. The state’s service sheet says corporations set their own fee. [S24]
- Kanpur: a “Dog Registration” service is listed on Kanpur Smart City’s online civic services portal; we didn’t find it linked from the Nagar Nigam’s own website. [S23]
- Visakhapatnam: GVMC’s online citizen services list “Pet Registration”, but we couldn’t open its details. [S25]
- No pet registration page found on the official websites of: Agra, Bhopal, Bhubaneswar, Coimbatore, Kochi, Madurai, Patna, Raipur, Ranchi, Thiruvananthapuram and Vadodara.
What most cities ask for
The details differ, but across the cities above, the application usually needs:
- the owner’s ID or address proof (often Aadhaar)
- a photo of the dog
- a valid anti-rabies vaccination certificate from a vet
- online payment of the fee
Keep the vaccination certificate up to date. In several cities, such as Delhi, the licence is linked to the anti-rabies vaccination date. [S1]
The Pawsitive Hoomans Take
Registering takes a few minutes online in most cities, and the renewal date is the part people forget. Note it in your calendar the day you register. If your city renews every April, as Noida and Ghaziabad do, set the reminder for 1 April.
🐾 Most registrations need a current rabies certificate. Our free Vaccination Tracker reminds you when it is due, and a Pet Passport keeps the certificate and your licence together.
Frequently asked questions
Can I do nagar nigam dog registration online?
In every city listed on this page, the application is online. Delhi says registration is online only. [S1] Pune also asks for annual registration at the regional office. [S6]
Is a dog licence the same as pet registration?
Yes, in practice. Cities use different names (licence, registration or certificate) for the same thing: recording your dog with the local body.
How often do I renew a dog licence?
Usually every year. Noida and Ghaziabad renew in April [S2] [S3], and Delhi’s licence is valid for up to a year, linked to the rabies vaccination date. [S1]
How much does dog registration cost?
It depends on the city: Rs 100 in Kolkata [S7], Rs 500 in Delhi and Noida [S1] [S2], and Rs 1,000 in Ghaziabad. [S3] Check your city’s guide above.
Do I need to register a cat?
Some cities register cats too. Jaipur’s system covers both dogs and cats. [S9]
